Exemplary Leadership

Anyone who has been in the workforce for more than a few years has surely witnessed good and poor leadership in action. Few corporate processes are more revealing of leadership style and effectiveness than the performance review, where the amount of time and energy an individual devotes to accurately assessing employees is quite transparent in the final product.

Exemplary leaders incorporate clarity and passion in their lives daily as they assess individual performance, acknowledge achievement, and motivate others toward greater productivity.

What You Do In The Dark Will Come To The Light

One would think by now that we get this! It’s inevitable that what you do in the dark will always come to the light.

Lance Armstrong confesses to doping on Oprah. It’s the greed that’s even more astonishing. Think about how many true competitors were cheated out of the title for seven years. It's unfortunate, but for most of his competitors, it was probably their first and last opportunity.

As kids we used to say, "sorry didn't do it, you did." The depth of his deception is his true legacy.

Men Are Simple Creatures

Every waking morning, before I  get out of bed, I think of all the things that need to be done for the day. In my mind, I’ve already worked out, made breakfast, planned dinner, cleaned the house, finished the laundry, shopped for groceries, washed my hair, etc. So, when I finally get out of bed, I’m already stressed out.

On one of those mornings I thought, with all that we have to do today, why is my husband still lying in bed? Now, keep in mind, I haven’t shared anything with him, but I’m starting to get irritable. I had to stop and think, men are not built like women. They can’t read our minds, we need to communicate our needs and desires.

We need to delegate responsibilities at home, in the same manner we do at our job. Men will do whatever we ask, they’ll eat whatever we cook, and sometimes wear whatever we want. Men are simple creatures, could it be the women that make life complicated? If you need anything, just ask!

An Affair to Remember

When I watched this movie as a young adult, I couldn't really appreciate it. However, after watching it again recently, I was enthralled throughout. Their chemistry was undeniable.

Although, I don't condone their behavior, since they were both spoken for, I am a believer in true love and all aspects of it, i.e. the emotion, the act, etc.

At one point, Deborah Kerr says, "winter must be extremely cold for those with no warm memories."

It saddened me to think of the number of people in loveless relationships. We all know those types of relationships, "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with."

This movie is a classic and will remain one of my favorites. I hope and pray everyone can someday experience true love, as it is a wondrous thing.

Muhammad Ali's Advice to his Daughters

An incident transpired when Muhammad Ali’s daughters arrived at his home wearing clothes that were quite revealing.

Here is the story as told by one of his daughters:

“When we finally arrived, the chauffeur escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father’s suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged many hugs and kisses as we could possibly give in one day.

My father took a good look at us. Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Hana, everything that God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to.

Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected.

Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell.

Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock. You’ve got to work hard to get to them.”

He looked at me with serious eyes. “Your body is sacred. You’re far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too.”
